Welcome to Icarus Park Stud
We are breeders of Irish Draught and Irish Sport Horses.
We stand two stallions, one purebred Irish Draught we imported from Ireland, and one Irish Sport Horse we bred ourselves in Australia from imported frozen semen from Ireland. History The 250 acre property came to be named ‘Icarus’ in the 1970’s after the racehorse ‘Gay Icarus’ who won the 1971 Caulfield Cup and was also Australian Horse of the Year 1970-71. Mick Mallyon owned and jockeyed Gay Icarus, and was a prior owner of Icarus Park. Mallyon won the Caulfield cup three times. The original name plate of ‘Tregunna’ still adorns the front door of the homestead, with date circa 1865. Location Icarus Park is located in central Victoria, near the town of Lancefield, which lies within the Macedon Ranges. We are a short drive north of Melbourne, take the Tullamarine Freeway, pass the airport and continue on the Melbourne – Lancefield Road. The journey takes under one hour from Melbourne, and 35 minutes from Melbourne Airport. Visitors We enjoy showing visitors our Irish Draughts. Inspection by appointment only please, ‘drop-ins’ will be made to clean out stables. |
